about

Govinda has created two timeless tracks for Critical Beats. The first “Teacher Calling” weaves field recordings gathered from Peru that include: 1) the voice of a Shipibo Elder in the Amazon singing in her endangered native language, praying that her language will continue on to the children 2) flute from a native medicine healer living in Cusco 3) percussion from a native living in the Sacred Valley (rain sticks and more), and 4) children living in the Amazon jungle outside of Iquitos - these children participate in an environmental program to learn how to care for the rainforest sustainably (provided by the organization ACEER). The second track “The Xavante” incorporates ceremonial music from the Xavante an Indigenous Brazilian tribe working with Rainforest Action Network to resist soy expansion onto their territories.

These songs represent a cross-cultural effort to create awareness and action in support of forest preservation. All proceeds go to support non-profit organizations with well-established relationships and processes in place that successfully support Amazon conservation and social justice.

"When the music changes so does the dance"
